AbstractEquatorial ionosphere over Brazil has been observed by ground-based GPS receiver network (TEC and de-trended TEC), Ionosondes (fixed frequencies, foF2 and h´F), and optical imagers (OI630 nm and OHNIR). Equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) and medium scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) were monitored in a two-dimensional form, in an area extending by more than two thousand kilometes, with a temporal resolution of one to ten minutes. This method enabled us to study a possible generation process of EPB by MSTID. Further, simultaneous observation of mesospheric gravity waves (MGWs) by an OH Imager made it possible to study the possible generation of MSTIDs through upward propagation of MGWs. We present the signatures of MGWs and MSTIDs followed by that of the EPB, and use these observations to discuss possible coupling processes through upward propagating waves from the troposphere to ionosphere.
